Technical Support Note
Product(s) involve : SB 2.0, SB Pro, SB Pro 2
Software(s) involve : DUNE II Form Virgin Software
Third party hardware : N.A.
Subject
The game DUNE II does not produce digitised sound but still play music when
Sound Blaster mode is selected.
Description
The game DUNE II will detect the Sound Blaster card based on the BLASTER
environment and it is UPPER CASE SENSITIVE. The following BLASTER
environment examples show DUNE II detection of Sound Blaster address:-
BLASTER = A220 IX DX TX Detection of SB at address 220H
BLASTER = a220 IX DX TX SB detected at default address 220H
BLASTER = A240 IX DX TX Detection of SB at address 240H
BLASTER = a240 IX DX TX SB detected at default address 220H
BLASTER = SB detected at default address 220H
DUNE II will default to address 220H for Sound Blaster when the BLASTER
environment is not set or user had use 'a' instead of 'A'.
Solution/Action
The following remedy actions are to be taken to correct the problem :-
1. Request user to type 'set' at the DOS prompt and check that the BLASTER
environment is set-up.
2. Ensure that user had use 'A' and not 'a' when they set-up the BLASTER
environment in their AUTOEXEC.BAT.
SET BLASTER = A2XX ... *
SET BLASTER = a2XX ... *
